Bertel HAARDER
Minister for Culture and Ecclesiastical Affairs

Mr. Bertel Geismar Haarder, born 1944 in Roenshoved in the southern part of Jutland, close to the German border. He was appointed Minister for Culture and Ecclesiastical Affairs in June 2015.
Bertel Haarder has been a member of the Danish Parliament for the Liberal Party from 1975 until 1999 and again from 2005 to present. From 1994 to 2001, Bertel Haarder was a Member of The European Parliament (Vice-Chairman from 1997-1999).
Throughout his parliamentary career, Bertel Haarder has been appointed Minister nine times, which includes Minister for Culture and Ecclesiastical Affairs (2015-); Minister for the Interior and Health (2010-2011); Minister for Education and Nordic Cooperation (2007-2010); Minister for Education and Minister for Ecclesiastical Affairs (2005-2007); Minister for Refugee, Immigration and Integration Affairs and Minister for Development Cooperation (2004-2005); Minister for Refugee, Immigration and Integration Affairs (2003-2004); Minister for Refugee, Immigration and Integration Affairs and Minister for European Affairs (2001-2003); Minister for Education and Research (1987-1993), and Minister for Education (1982-1987).
Prior to his parliamentary career, Bertel Haarder worked as a teacher at Aaskov Folk High School (1968-1973), Haderslev State Teacher Training College (1971-1973) and as a lecturer at Aalborg Training College (1973-1975).
Moreover, Bertel Haarder has authored a number of social science publications. He graduated in 1970 from Aarhus University with a Master’s degree in Political Science and studied in the USA from 1964 to 1965.
